Loose Ends

Posted in From the News Desk,Open Forum by puremen on October 27, 2005

A short post just to tie up a couple loose ends:

First, thank you to all who have emailed, commented, or tracked Christian Carnival XCIII. I have received so many positive comments and words of thanks and encouragement from those who participated. It’s my pleasure to have helped bring this to the blogosphere.

Second, those expecting to see a Persecution Update here will find that post sometime this evening at Christian Persecution Newsfile, the new home for all persecution related items.

Third, it’s back to normal and I’d like to encourage those of you who want to consider forming a “men’s ‘blog’istry network” to comment/respond to this post. I am considering starting a blogroll of friends dedicated to the issues that men face from a biblical standpoint. Be in touch if interested…we can’t or shouldn’t view each other as competition to beat, but instead as fellowship to enjoy.

The New Network Affiliate

White Ribbon Warriors is proud to announce a new “network” member to enhance its association with the Voice of the Martyrs Blogosphere project.

The goal of the VOM project is for bloggers worldwide to post and disseminate information about Voice of the Martyrs, discussing the persecution that occurs worldwide of Christian believers. I planned to share posts at White Ribbon Warriors on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of every month at a minimum and more as time and conditions warrant. However, with the help of a great friend we are both finding so much on this matter that I want to divide the persecution news off from WRW and allow it to have it’s own focused blog, and return the focus of WRW to the issues involving men.

This is the result. The Christian Persecution Newsfile. I will use that to blog on persecution as much as I can in order to help the cause of the persecuted church. You are of course encouraged to pay a visit, read what’s going on in Persecution issues and of course take action as you are led to by God.

Breaking news, and a bit of a broken heart

I was deeply saddened to learn via the local morning newspaper about the death of Pastor Raymond Deshomme, a missionary pastor who served in the village of Mahotte, Haiti. I have had the honor and pleasure of meeting Pastor Raymond and his family through my home church. He was a man of small physical stature, but his faith in Jesus Christ made him a giant. The most poignant memory I have of Pastor Raymond was he and his wife praying with me for my wife’s recovery from some illness she was suffering at that time. And he always recognized me by my trumpet, though he never knew me by name.

Pastor Raymond was attacked and killed in his home village. Published reports note that he was driving his wife to work when a gang pulled him from his pickup truck and shot him behind a building. Mahotte is a very heavily voodoo influenced village, yet Pastor Raymond felt it was God’s call for him to leave an established church north of there and head to this place to spread the gospel. A quote from our pastor in the article says that he believes this murder was brought on by Pastor Raymond’s faith in God more so than civil reasons based on the available information at this time. Another pastor my home church supports there, Pastor St. Hilaire Fanira, has gone into hiding because of this event until all facts are in order.

Pray for the Deshomme family, both his immediate family and all of those of his extended Christian family. He ministered to so many in Haiti, and four churches at least in the Cambria/Somerset (PA) County market supported his work with money, prayers, and material needs.

The song playing right now on K-Love sums it up so well what I see in Pastor Raymond:
“I want to leave a legacy…how will they remember me…”
I’ll always remember this man as “the littlest giant I’ve ever met”.

In a prime-time nationally televised tilt meant to show whether or not these kids at Penn State could compete with the Big 10′s establishment, Penn State showed that they indeed can win against anyone to this point with a 17-10 win over visiting Ohio State Saturday night.

A close game throughout, a key fumble recovery by the Lions late helped seal the win. The win vaults Penn State to #8 in the rankings and alone as the only undefeated in the Big 10. So far, it’s been a very impressive season for JoePa and the Nittany Lions. Without Iowa on the schedule this year, it should be interesting to see what they can do the rest of the way.

WE ARE….PENN STATE!

A great day for the Warriors

Posted in From the News Desk,God Stuff,Open Forum by puremen on October 9, 2005

It’s been a great day outside of the blogosphere for me, and I just want to share briefly.

Today, I was baptized. It’s been 12 years since I gave my life to Christ (at that time a public affirmation of faith), and never was it more strongly impressed upon me to be baptized than it was at this time.

Our church baptized 30 people today…ranging in age from 9 to 88. What a great day. And this isn’t about church membership (although some churches do tag the two together), it’s simply about publicly declaring “alliances” with Jesus Christ. As I view the whole of scripture, I would have gone to heaven in those 12 years if something would have happened to me. But it was just so strongly impressed on me by God to do this today.

A return to the routine blogging schedule (i.e., this week’s Persecution Special) comes tomorrow. But I just wanted to address this great day briefly here. And I would challenge you, that if the opportunity exists for you to be baptized and you haven’t been yet, to go do it. The words aren’t here for me tonight, but there is something so powerful and special about taking part of this public declaration.

As an aside, this is post #50 at WRW. So, a fresh new look. I still have links and buttons to put back in place, as well as the Haloscan commenting stuff, but that’s also a project for later this week. I just want to bask a little in the events of this day, and really digest them.

A post done for my wife…

OK, you’re expecting something mushy?

Sorry.

My wife is a huge penguin collector…and when I saw this article I thought of her.

Check out AIG’s review of the movie “March of the Penguins”

Some fascinating stuff there with regard to the life of a penguin and how it speaks to a divine Creator.

Can you believe a church bishop backs this?

From the UK’s London Telegraph:

Church Bishop backs Pantie Parties to Spread Church Message

I have officially seen it all now. This disgusts me.
